Cambodia - Angkor Wat

Filed Under (Art, Cambodia, Historical, Natural, Seven wonders) by colun on 23-09-2008

Do you know that at Cambodia, Angkor Wat is the seven wonders in the world? Many people, when they hear the name Angkor in a conversation, they ask: “Angkor what?” Angkor Wat is one of the most beautiful and fascinating places on the planet. Made by the Khmer kings in a process that lasts almost 4 centuries, this magnificent area has been abandoned and hidden by the forest. Rediscovered by a French man about 150 years ago, Angkor Wat is ready to become one of the most visited archaeological and artistic sites on the planet.

Legends and symbolism are also included whenever feasible to give the visitor additional background for a better appreciation of Angkor. Angkor provides wonderful photographic opportunities. The tombstones and the surrounding jungle afford unlimited textural and lighting opportunities for composing a picture. Clouds are common and tend to spread the light, which is somewhat flat, even though it is intense.

As most of the temples face east the best lighting conditions are in the morning except for Angkor Wat where the best light is in the afternoon because it faces west. The temples surrounded by jungle such as Ta Prohm and Prah Khan can be photographed with good result when the sun is directly overhead and shining through the plants.

With the name Angkor Wat we usually define the area where the ruins of these magnificent temples are, but before you arrive here, you will surely stop to Siem Reap, the closest city to this exciting world. Siem Reap has just finished rebuilding its international airport, new pub, cafe and restaurants open almost every week, as well as new hotels and guestrooms.
